Paul, I just noticed that information on a songbook has been added to your homepage. The e-mail address is either incorrect or unattainable. I would really like to get my hands on this songbook, could someone please fix this or send me some further info. To all those who get to see ya in concert overthere, you're so lucky! I dream someday to have the opportunity too! Best wishes, Gail

Fabulous talent! I loved the first two albums. When can we expect a new album? Is there any material available that may be available, but not available commercially here in the States? Great songs, both musically and lyrically. JDF

Hello Paul, I was reading your "GuestBook" and saw so many entries. I just returned from Ire visiting relations and perused a few record stores in Kilkenny City and found only the latest CD, "SPIRITS COLLIDING". I'm new to your music , although I bought "Welcome Here Kind Stranger" a few years ago quite randomly at an Irish flea market of sorts (the Hunter Mt, Irish Festival)...Serendipity I suspect. I was Wow-ed ! Anyway, I could not believe your music is so hard to find. Please Help. regards.

Went to see you in the Cork Opera house last friday. You were excellent. Diffenitly stick with the acustic set it shows up the excellent musician that you are. The atmosphere at the show was great and you seemed to enjoy the banter with the crowd. What happens to you when you come to Cork first no electricity, then no tin whiste ! Keep it up Paul, and come back to Cork again real soon. Regards A loyal Fan Tony

Paul, we saw you last night in Cork Opera House and you were just brilliant. Your choice of songs was excellent and there was great audience participation which really added to the night and you responded with great aplomb. Please make a point of playing "Nothing But The Same Old Story" next time in Cork and don't leave it too late to coming here again. P.S. Don't forget your tin whistle next time!!!

Paul, I've been a great fan of your traditional music for many years. I think your rendition of 'Paddy's Green Shamrock Shore' is probably the best ever recorded. I'm not the greatest of rock fans but I have bought and enjoyed one or two of your rock albums and thouroughly enjoyed them. I've even tried promoting them to the heathens here in 'The Great White North!' I try to get back to Donegal every few years but I have children here and it becomes more and more difficult as years go by. Do you know all of the words to 'Donegal the pride of all? I've always wanted to get hold of them. The same with 'Glenswilly.' Anyway, Paul, good luck and god bless. Regards, Mike Cannon

Very excited to read about an upcoming new release from Mr. Brady. I am very disappointed that I may never get to see him perform live as he doesn't tour in California - or at least not recently. How about a live album, Paul? Hearing you perform World is What You Make It alone would go a long way towards satisfying my Paul Brady fix until I can get to Ireland to see you in person. Anything I can do to assist - you just let me know and I will make every effort. Thanks!

Your version of "The homes of Donegal" is one of my all time favourite songs. I was wondering if there was any possibility of you or someone out there giving me some indication of how to play it on Guitar, I think it starts with A and them some variation of it. Any pointers would be great. Meanwhile keep up the good work. Unfortunately I haven't had a chance of seeing you live since Finsbury park in 96.

I was channel surfing one night about 6 months ago and stumbled upon TNN, a country cable channel. There was a Mary Chapin Carpenter special on; live from Dublin I believe and Paul, you were a special guest. I had heard of both you and Mary before but had never heard your music or hers and frankly, I was blown away. There was some solo acoustic tune that you did in an alternate tuning that was mind-boggling. Was this video ever released? I have looked for your cds and have only found Spirits Calling which I enjoy very much. How can I get more of your cds? I live right near NYC. Thanks........you are truly a phenomenal musician and songwriter. Jeff

I recently started watching "Faith in the Future" in which your song "The World is What You Make It" is promenantly featured. I had heard the song previously on the radio and had liked it a lot but this reminded me that I needed to check out your music. I then saw that you were the songwriter on several Bonnie Raitt songs that I was learning. This round-about way of being introduced to your music is interesting to me and now that I own "Spirits Colliding", I'm sure that I will aquire more of your albums.

I first heard your record in 91-92, I think. I found your way of singing quite similar to Van Morrison. I`ve read that you don`t go for that similarity, but that`s my opinion. When I`ve said that, you should know that Van M. has been my favourite artist since 1970. I wil buy one of your records; Which one would you suggest for a first-time listener of your music? I know you were in Oslo last autumn. Actually, I was thinking of going to one of your concerts. I ended up just thinking. So when are you coming back? By the way; I use for myself a slogun for Van Morrison: The Van and only Morrison! If I go for your music, I wonder what kind of slogun I will create for you. Hilsen Torbjørn Ruud. HI! I'm writing to inquire about any ideas on how to find a great fiddling school in Ireland. I am dying to come to Ireland and get involved with all the wonderful music that the counry has to offer. I am studying violin right now at the Cleveland Institute of music. I have been involved in music pretty much since the day I was born. If you have any suggestions about how to go about locating the addresses or phone numbers of any fiddling festivals or schools, etc. please let me know. I would be much obliged! Thanks!! Meg

A lover of celtic music you have been one of my favourite Irish musicians for a number of years now and when I travel abroad I always look for your latest CD. It always amazes that while your peers obviously admire your work you are not better known. Keep up your good work in 1998. Regards.

I can see from the guestbook that there are quite a number of us in Australia waiting for the tour - 1997 didn't happen, and dates are to be confirmed, but when??? Are you playing solo again (if so, get Paul Kelly on the road and do a repeat of those great shows we saw here last time), or are you bringing a band - that would be even better. Anyhow, how about an update on the site soon about what you've been doing and most importantly some tour dates - you were supposed to include Canberra so please don't forget us - see you again at Tilley's in the (hopefully) not too distant future!!!

Firstly,I was wondering if you were planning to play any upcoming concerts in the south of Ireland.Secondly,as I am a little computer illiterate(this is my first time surfing the net)I was wondering if there was a particular place where I could get hold of lyrics and guitar chords of any of your brilliant songs. Thanking you in anticipation. Yours in overwhelming admiration. John McCann

After searching for over a year, I finally found "Spirits Colliding" at Borders (in the Rock section, no less! I had been looking in the Irish music section). It is a wonderful CD, but I must admit, I like the version of "Reason to Believe" on "Common Ground" a little better -- but no matter, it's a beautiful song. Cheers.

Still desparately seeking chords, tunings and tabs for Paul's material ,particularly songs from "Andy Irvine and Paul Brady" and the song Paddy's Green Shamrock Shore as brilliantly rendered by Paul with Andy Irvine. If the book doesn't exist, why doesn't it?? Alternatively, tunings etcetera might be incorporated into this home-page? In any case,as you may have guessed, I'm a big fan. P.S. Someone asked about the tuning for Paul's astounding rendition of Arthur MacBride.I believe that this can be played in open G tuning. Slan go foill agus adh mor oraibh go leir.

I really enjoyed the gig in Edinburgh during the Festival. Pity about the venue also hosting a much louder revue/cabaret band on a lower floor. Guess that's why you couldn't do "I will be there". That was second time I'd seen PB perform accoustically. What about a tour with a full band sometime?

My Mum told me you were my second cousin [you are supposed to be my Dad's cousin] and that they met your parents some years ago and so I listened to a sampler CD they had given them. To be perfectly frank, I didn't like it. It sounded a little like 'contemporary adult' elevator music. It was "Primitive Dance" I think. But I saw your name in the credits of that Chieftains CD "The Long Black Vale" and that is one of my favourites. So I took the time to listen a bit more but I still think it is not my cup of tea. At the same time I can appreciate that you are a fine musician. Best of luck with success in the future. [Pardon my grammar, I'm drunk.]

My first musical connection to you came from purchasing Bonnie Raitt's The Luck of the Draw. The title track haunted me for years. For over four years I helped produce Celtic concerts in the Phila. PA area starting with Andy Irvine and continuing with the likes of Altan (numerous times), two incarnations of the Celtic Fiddle Festival (5 tracks from our shows made it to the live CD), Dougie MacLean, Capercaille and finally Liam O'Flynn with Arty McGlynn. That night I purchased 'The Given Note' and your voice on The Rocks of Bawn invades my very being every time I play it. Unfortunately, due to lack of funds we had to disband our concert series and there has been a serious lack of Celtic concerts here since. It is one of my deepest regrets that we weren't able to have you at one of our shows. You are truly one of the giants of our time.

As a musician and singer myself playing the button accordion, I am a great admirer of your work, especially the early work with the Bothy Band etc. More recently, The Island is one of the most beautiful songs ever written and performed magnificently at the Barbican. The Lunny concert was also superb the night before and well worth the money. As a pupil of Brendan Mulkhere there is a pool of great musicians in London and a thriving scene much of which looks back to the sixtees. Ihope to attend your next concert, all the best. Pete.

A few weeks ago I asked for information about a wonderful version of "Lakes of Ponchartrain" with magnificent tin whistle arrangement. Just wanted to thank you for your quick response. I had your return message in less than 24 hours. You mentioned that "Welcome Here Kind Stranger" , where that recording can be heard, is now hard to find. I was able to get a copy from Elderly Instruments in Lansing, Mi., which still has them in stock. Thanks for your help.

I've gone to see you play whenever I can, although I'm living in Boston now, and haven't seen you play since I left home. Maybe I'll get to see you play here sometime. All the best!

hello paul, i have followed your music career since the johnstons. I cannot get any of the early recordings of the group while you were on the pye record label. i appreciate it is a long time ago, but I feel that was the best time musically for the group. I remember seeing you live in liberty hall, dublin in the late sixties, a great concert. i had all the records on pye at one time. when i moved away from dublin, i recorded them on tape and still have the tape. unfortunately the records have been lost. maybe you could help. thanks tony. p.s. i think that the words of 'nothing but the same old story' sum up the feelings of irish people living in england appropriately. i recently completed a masters in anti-irish racism and your words were referenced. excellent!

I believe that quite a few years ago you were involved in a wonderful recording of "Lakes of Ponchartrain" . In the recording I'm trying to locate, the instrumental breaks consisted an incredible arrangment of four harmony tinwhistles. Was this you? If so, which recording, and is it still available? Hi! You're a brilliant singer, guitarist and slow air whistle player. I first heard you when I was getting deep into Irish trad, on the Brady/Irvine album. Then, what a shock to hear your more recent stuff! But it's all excellent - I saw you play at Nightstage in Cambridge in 1993 with my whistle teacher, Meabh, who was squealing and swooning the whole night (much to the annoyance of the other listeners!) I hope you get to the Philadelphia area sometime soon. Good luck, Tim

I have all your stuff incl. the promo video for "Trick or Treat" and saw you twice on that tour. I covered "Blue World" on an independant cd(the royalties couldn't buy you a pint of the creamy stuff!) I'm here to say Thanks for the music and I always look forward to new stuff. Hi, Paul's a great talent. Unfortunately I was gigging the last time he played in Brisbane but I'll be doing my best to keep the date in November free. Can you tell me who's promoting the tour in Australia. It would be a great gig for us to play the support for. On another matter, yesterday I bought a 1987 cd called Primitive Dance which also included a couple of songs from a cd I already owned called something like "Songs & Crazy Dreams". I'm a little confused by what material Paul actually has out in the market place. Where would I find a relatively complete discography of Paul's works. Which album has the original version of "Luck of the Draw". Paul if you're out there ... thanks for the wonderful music. Cheers from Australia Mark Cryle

Hi Paul, Just a note to thank you for many years of fine music. My vinyl copies of "Welcome.." and your work with Andy are still holding up despite 20 years of play. Wouldn't mind finding them on CD, but they seem to be like hen's teeth. Just to be nosy - what are the tunings for "Arthur Mc." and "Lakes of Pontchartrain"? I've tried a few, but the fingering seemed a little awkward. Anyway, thanks for the tunes, Paul, it's been a ride. Malcolm Atkinson

Absolutely floored to find a page for PB on the WWW. We first became acquainted through a Mary-Chapin Carpenter special on one of the cable telly channels. Completely knocked sideways by the music of all the artists involved. Ended up with the groove to "You're the One" stuck in the back of my mind -- at least until Mary-Chapin Carpenter came on tour. In the middle of the concert she mentioned you. We looked at each other and wondered if she was going to play it. We stood up and cheered when your name was mentioned -- must have been the only two people in Florida outside of Mary's band (and a friend who has heard "Help Me to Believe") who knew you. We ended up singing along with nearly all of the song, went to our local record store to look for you and found "Spirits Colliding." Absolutely end-to-end awesome. Our musical friend and Michael are going to try to learn "Beautiful World" (to add to their small Irish-related repetoire). Keep up the great work and rest assured that if you ever are in the Tampa Bay area for a concert that you'll have at least two rabid fans waiting in line to see you! Cheers!

Hello, I am a 12 year old girl from Sweden that have been fond of listening to Irish music the latest year. Recently I bought the "Shine" CD by Mary Black on which you participates in the song "I will be there". I really love this song (and my sister too). I have heard the song "Arthur Mc Bride" on the "Celtic Graces" CD. It is very sad but I like it very much as well. I will try to get hold of some other CD:s of yours. Best regards from Cecilia

Just a note to say hello to Paul and thank him for a kind gesture he performed about 5 years back. It happened when I was working as a V.J. at Muchmusic in Canada, I asked him about "Lakes of Ponchatrain" because a few weeks prior I had interviewed "Hothouse Flowers" in Dublin and they performed that song for me and credited Paul. I showed Paul this interview on videotape and he went home and made a homemade cassette of the song and sent it back to me in Canada. I've told that story many times on television and on radio, but it has a sad ending...my car was broken into a few years ago and the tape was among the items stolen...got the new "Mary Black" cd, your duet is wonderful...are you coming to Canada soon, drop me a line...DAN

Dear Paul, This is a nice opportunity to tell you how much I enjoyed your contribution to the New York Fleadh. A great performance. I was standing just in front of the stage with a whole bunch of ardent admirers who knew all the lyrics (more than I can say). It took me back to a concert just under two decades ago, in Portrush. You played some songs that were to be part of 'Hard Station' and I was incredibly surprised. The album is still my favourite Paul Brady album. I hope that one of our concert organisers hires you to play in Amsterdam sometime. Anyway, thanks for the concert (one of the two highlights for me; the other one was Richard Thompson) and good luck with the songwriting. All the best, Jan

For general information, to all those who have asked for help in locating some of Paul's earlier releases: I managed to track down a Dutch mail order service that has *Back to the Centre* and *True for You* on CD (as well as the later CD's, of course.) They also have a Johnston's CD in stock. Their address is http://www.musicmailexpress.com/. It looks legit enough so I'm giving it a shot. I'm still trying to track down *Hard Station* myself--couldn't one of you Brady fans in Ireland get an Irish record store that stocks his works to post an e-mail address in the guestbook here? Hope you don't mind, Paul. As you can see from the entries here, some of us fans unfortunately got on your bandwagon a little late and are desparately trying to make up for lost time! P.S. My husband and I will be seeing you live for the first time this weekend and can't wait. Let 'em rip!

Sir Paul, I am heading home in 5 weeks time, to my ' shake down by the wall ' and I would really appreciate a copy of the chords to 'The Homes Of Donegal' ( of great significance as my grandparents are Houghton's from Buncrana) before I get there. If your ever in Hong Kong, it's my shout. Oh! and a small confession... It was me, the empty 3 litre wine bag on the floor of the 'Mean Fiddler' in Dec 86. Apologies... Thanks for another great night!

Just saying hello. I'm a great fan, and like many others...I'm particularly fond of your contributions to traditional music before you moved on. Did you always play in open G guitar tuning??? I've tried to figure out some of your licks, usually unsuccesfully!! Hopefully you will venture "down under" soon to play for us. cheers, graeme
